Algeria-Vietnam Relations
-Date of diplomatic relation establishment: October 28th, 1962. Vietnam opened its embassy in Algeria in November 1962, and Algeria opened its embassy in Hanoi in April 1968.
-Exchange of delegations: Vietnam’s high-level delegations to Algeria: Prime Minister Pham Van Dong (1974), General Vo Nguyen Giap (1976), President Vo Chi Cong (1989), President Tran Duc Luong (1999), Prime Minister Phan Van Khai (2004), and President of the National Assembly Nguyen Van An (2005).
Algeria’s high-level delegations to Vietnam: delegations headed by Presidents Boumedienne (1974), Zeroual (1996), Abdelaziz Bouteflika (2000) and Chairman of the Lower House Amar Saadani (2005).
-The two countries have signed various agreements on cooperation, including Agreement on Economic, Scientific and Technological Cooperation (1974), Agreement on Trade (1994), Agreement on Visa Exemption for Diplomatic and Official Passport holders (1994), Agreement on Cooperation in Culture and Information (1996), Agreement on Investment Promotion and Protection (1996), Protocol on the Cooperation between the two Foreign Minitries, Agreement on Avoidance of Double-Taxation (1999), and Agreement on Cooperation in Agriculture (2004).
-Bilateral economic and commercial relations:
+ During the period of 1989-2001, Vietnam mainly implemented Debt Exchange Agreements with the total value of around $80 million.
+ The economic and commercial relations between the two countries still remain modest but are on the rise. The gross turn-over of export and import between the two countries reached: $6.5 million in 2002, $30 million in 2003, $31 million in 2004, $31 million in 2005 ($60 million if including goods via third countries), and around $35 million in 2006.
